Fashion Popcorn

Fashion Popcorn is a love project conceived by featherhouse – Constance, Emily and Harriet – in early 2010.

Fashion Popcorn aims to create a community of creative minds from fashion, film and digital media (as well as anyone else who’d like to join!) and have some fun. Oh, and start conversations around fashion and film on the digital landscape, explore creative opportunities and foster collaborative relationships. Not too much then. Phew!

We see really exciting potential in cross-sector relationships, and would like to open doors between industries. All three of us are creative content producers, all three work increasingly in the digital arena, respectively as a fashion writer/editor and digital content producer and consultant; film-maker/performance artist and social media marketeer; and artist and pervasive media practitioner.

Born out of Emily’s existing blog, we decided that – given there’s nothing like face-to-face communication – we wanted to get a bunch of lovely people in a room to kickstart ideas.

Fashion Popcorn’s salons launched on 22 July 2010. Attended by over 60 bright minds from fashion, film and digital media,  the launch was supported by Shooting People and held during Rushes Soho Shorts Festival at the fabulous London College of Fashion. We presented a mini fashion film showcase, an interactive ‘Krstl’ showcase from Tim Kindberg, and a panel discussion with Emily, Harriet, up-and-coming film-maker Kathryn Ferguson and Tim. Then drinks, of course – delish (slightly strong) Italian Spritzers from Martini.

Building on its success, featherhouse has been holding regular Fashion Popcorn events and has plans for a monthly “open laptop” event once we find a home for it. Watch this space.

We continue the conversations via Emily’s blog, and welcome any contributions or comments. We don’t pretend to know it all. In fact, our point is that we don’t know it all, and are actively seeking to engage with fellow practitioners and learn in collaboration. And also talk about lovely fashion things which take our fancy. And good places for tea and cake – essential brain food, non?
